If you have ever heard anyone talk about a social networking website, then Facebook may be one of the websites that they were referring to. That is exactly what Facebook is. Facebook is a social networking website that was founded by Mark Zuckerburg in February 2004. The Facebook website was first created for the students of Harvard University and then expanded months later to other ivy league universities. Eventually, the website became open to high school students and after that, Facebook was open to anyone with a valid email address who was of the age thirteen and older.
If you are a member of the Facebook community, then I am sure that you have noticed a feature on Facebook for causes. You have probably received invitations from friends to join a particular cause since you have been a member of Facebook. Just because you are a business does not mean that you should not join causes. However, you do not want to join any causes that are anything too radical because you could lose business. This means that you should avoid joining any causes that are controversial, such as causes that are geared toward a particular religion, race, belief, or politics. Joining causes is a great way to boost your business if you do it in the right way.
Becoming a member of the Facebook website and creating a profile for your business is just the beginning of how Facebook can be extremely helpful to your business. With Facebook, businesses have been able to spread the word of their business to an enormous amount of people world wide, gain new business, grow their business, and expand their business. The Facebook community is the ultimate community to advertise to seeing as how there are more than two hundred million active Facebook members today and counting. One of the easiest ways to promote and advertise your business is through your Facebook status.
The goal of business owners is to make money. This often results with the selling of a particular product or service. However, to sell that product or service business owners need to alert their target audience of its existence, right? Customer cannot buy a product or a service if they don’t know about it.
Although social networking websites are traditionally focused on those that would like to make online friends or develop online relationships, there are networking sites that are designed for business owners. These websites will not only allow you to share your business information with other business owners, but will also allow you to develop close relationships with those that share an interest that is similar to yours. Essentially, this means that you could not only learn valuable business information, but you could also walk away with a new business partner or several new loyal customers.
But with some of the Web 2.0 sites – social bookmarking sites for instance – a user can search a topic and find results based on how many other members have tagged (or voted for) a particular website. So instead of relying on faulty software algorithms to return search results, Web 2.0 interfaces are now giving us a glimpse of what it would be like if our Web searches were based more on the human element.
Without social networking websites, you would have to find and connect with Internet users one at a time, often in chat rooms, and learn about their interests before deciding if they are a good fit for you. So social networking sites allow you to be more efficient by learning about another Internet user before ever having to make contact with them.
Once you determine your “brand” or specific area that you wish to become known as the authority or “obvious expert,” you need to create a “Google Alert” and “Tweet Beep” to monitor the postings, news and conversations about the keywords or phrases of interest.
Once you’ve established your “Google Alert” in step one above, the post you’ll receive by email will look similar to the one on the next page that I received for the term “social networking.”
When I click on Google Reader, it will open a small window on my page that allows me to post a comment and to add appropriate “tags” which will increase the “indexability” and categorization of the specific comment posted.
After you’ve marked the resource in your Google Reader and in StumbleUpon, you may also enter the page in other sites contained in the Shareaholic interface. These added entries are not essential, but, entries to sites like Reddit, Mixx and others can be beneficial.
You should not use Ping.fm to post directly to your FriendFeed account. FriendFeed is a social aggregator that will pull in your posts from the sites that you are posting the message to via Ping.fm and to also post directly from Ping.fm would be very redundant.
